First and foremost, healthy and radiant skin always comes from the
inside – what you’re eating, what you do with your body, how you manage
stress, how much water and sleep you get, and so much more. I’ve had many clients of mine who
never complained of skin issues realize how much their skin started to
glow and hair grow long and strong after eating a whole foods diet and
following my plans. It’s amazing to see the transformation! I love
avocado, so much so that I find myself wearing it
in more ways than just on my face! All of these whole food ingredients
in this avocado face mask can easily be found in your pantry and can be
made very quickly. I use oatmeal, avocado,
honey, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar in this recipe for a
reason. Each of them have unique properties that work together to
provide nutrients and antioxidants directly to your skin and also leave
it feeling smooth and soothed. If you’re thinking that you’re going to
waste 1/2 of an avocado just for a face mask, think again. You know how
avocados go from firm to ripe in the matter of a day and you’re left
wondering how to use that too ripe avocado? Well this is a perfect time
to use a really ripe avocado!
- ½ avocado
- ¼ cup uncooked oatmeal
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Simply
mash and combine the ingredients in a small bowl and apply to your
face. Be careful around your eyes (as with all products).
- Let sit on your face for about 20 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water.
- Follow with your favorite moisturizer.
Avocado is
loaded with vitamin E, healthy fats, and antioxidants to help keep skin
smooth. Lemon juice and apple cider vinegar contain citric acid which
may help “brighten” the skin, and the apple cider vinegar may help
reduce inflammation on the skin (think of breakouts or redness as
inflammation). Honey helps brighten the skin and also thoroughly cleanse
with it’s natural antibacterial/antimicrobial properties, and the
uncooked oatmeal can work as an exfoliant while also soothing skin. Many
all natural skincare lines use avocado in the form of avocado oil. It’s
often used as a moisturizer and all natural source of free radical
damage fighting vitamin A, E, and vitamin C.

After you’ve mashed the avocado and the
rest of the ingredients into a small bowl, apply with your fingertips or
use a brush, my absolute favorite spa-like application. Take a makeup
brush or one that you don’t use often and designate this to be your
“mask” brush. I do this for all my facial masks and create a spa-like
experience at home by using the brush to apply the mask.
